Victorian Science Fiction Conventions Inc. is a not for profit association incorporated under the Victorian Associations Act, (1981). The purposes of the VSFC are primarily to foster and promote the ideas and enjoyment of science fiction in all areas of the genre. This is done through staging conventions. VSFC has staged major events such as the Aussiecon Three, World Science Fiction Convention in 1999 when it brought 2000 delegates to the Melbourne Convention Centre. It also staged Convergence 2002, the Australian National Science Fiction convention in 2002 when 400 people attended a 4-day program in Melbourne. It will stage the 2007 Natcon, again in Melbourne. It provided infrastructure and expertise to Continuum, the annual Melbourne event and Conflux, the 2004 Australian National Science Fiction Convention held in Canberra and the subsequent annual ACT conventions which resulted from that successful convention.
The Victorian Science Fiction Conventions Inc. (VSFC) was established in 1996. Australia won the right to stage the 57th Worldcon at Lacon in Los Angeles in 1996. As the legal entity for Aussiecon Three, VSFC held all fiduciary responsibilities for the convention. The Worldcon is governed by the rules of the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS). You can find more information about WSFC here http://www.wsfs.org/
Though Aussiecon Three is now closed, VSFC continues as an entity to further its objectives and purposes and has provided support to several projects to this end over the intervening years. You can find the VSFC Statement of Purposes and Objectives here.
